Many regions impacted by colonization experience alarmingly high mortality rates, as Western approaches alone often fail to address root causes.

Erosion of Knowledge

Vital traditional birth knowledge is being lost as elders pass, threatening essential community support systems and cultural heritage.

Gaps in Competent Care

Medical facilities often lack the understanding to provide culturally and spiritually grounded care, leading to fear-based, disempowering interventions.

A significant rift between traditional and Western practitioners hinders comprehensive care and the opportunity for mutual, life-saving learning.

Our Methodology

Our partnership will follow a structured, phased approach to ensure sustainable and impactful change.

Phase 1: Foundation Building

Initial (9-12 months)

Jointly conduct needs assessments with TBAs, providers, and communities. Facilitate virtual meetings to build trust and identify common ground.

Phase 2: Collaborative Design

Subsequent (11-18 months)

Co-design culturally relevant training and pilot programs. All Birth professionals, members, University faculty and students engage in research and field activities.

Phase 3: Scaling & Advocacy

Ongoing

Continuously evaluate program effectiveness. Refine and scale successful interventions. Jointly advocate for policy changes based on evidence.

Research & Data Collection: Jointly design and implement studies to quantify the positive impact of integrated traditional and Western birth practices on maternal and infant outcomes.
Curriculum Development & Education: The creation of a curriculum that integrates traditional and spiritual birth knowledge and cultural competency into existing university programs (e.g., nursing, public health, medical programs). This will be achieved by honoring and embedding the African way of learning and understanding, rather than relying solely on a Eurocentric framework, as we co-develop specialized training modules.
Student & Faculty Engagement: Create opportunities for university students and faculty to participate directly in Repair and Reconnect initiatives, including field experiences, internships, and research projects in partner countries.
Resource Sharing & Infrastructure: Leverage university resources (e.g., library access, research tools, virtual learning platforms) and collaborate on developing sustainable infrastructure for traditional birth worker networks.
Advocacy & Policy Influence: Jointly advocate for policies that officially recognize and honor partnerships with Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) and support culturally competent care.
